The principles of yoga suggest that you must be seated in a firm position while your body remains relaxed. However, the extension of yoga in modern world has diversified the yoga postures beyond this simple sitting manner.

What is Yoga? What it means?
The word Yoga is derived from the word 'yuj' which has many meanings like 'to control', 'to yoke', 'to unite' etc! 'Yuj' is a Sanskrit word. Sanskrit is an ancient language of India, the birthplace of Yoga!
The translation of it also include 'joining', 'uniting', 'union', 'means', 'conjunction'. These translations, without much different, signify the uniting/controlling one's body, mind and his/her spirit! And a performer or person practicing yoga is called yogi/yogini!
Though Yoga is originated in India, now it is very popular throughout the world. However, it is mostly known as Hatha Yoga. The form of yoga excercises are called asanas which is also mostly known as 'postures' outside of India.
